University’s Recent Developments 大學最新發展 18 With the aid of artificial intelligence technology, a research team from the Law Sau Fai Institute for Advancing Translational Medicine in Bone & Joint Diseases has successfully developed a novel aptamer (a single-stranded piece of DNA) for the treatment of osteogenesis imperfecta, a rare hereditary bone disease. This world-first breakthrough can be applied to drug discovery, the production and quality control stages of pharmaceutical manufacturing, and environmental monitoring. The research paper was published in the renowned international journal Advanced Functional Materials. 浸大物理系和化學系學者聯手研發出世界首創的功能納米 材料塗層，可於五分鐘內檢測到藥物分子中的有用組分。 此技術能應用於藥物研發、生產、品質控制，以至環境檢 測。相關研究論文已於國際知名學術期刊《先進功能材料》 發表。 A research team led by Professor Qiu Jianwen, Associate Head of the Department of Biology, has discovered a new fireworm species in Hong Kong waters and named it Chloeia bimaculata . It is the fourth named species to be added to the genus Chloeia over the past century. The team also identified Chloeia parva as the species that caused the fireworm outbreak in Hong Kong in 2018. The discovery was published in the international academic journal Zoological Studies . 生物系副系主任邱建文教授率領研究團隊在香港水域發現 新品種海毛蟲，並命名為「雙斑海毛蟲」，是全球近百年來 第四次發現海毛蟲新品種。此外，團隊還鑑別出 2018 年在 香港爆發的海毛蟲品種為「梯斑海毛蟲」。是項發現已獲 國際學術期刊《 Zoological Studies 》刊登。 Mr. Tang King Yu, Senior Lecturer of the Language Centre, wrote eight stories for the “LT Duck” Picture Book Series that promotes positive education among children and helps them to develop beneficial qualities.
