In Memoriam: Dr. Walter Kwok

The HKBU Foundation records with deepest sorrow the passing of Dr. Walter Kwok Ping Sheung, JP, donor of HKBU, on 20 October 2018. He was 69 years old.
Dr. Kwok, founder of Empire Group Holdings Limited and former chairman and chief executive of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited, was a Hong Kong property magnate who had made remarkable contributions to the real estate and property construction industry through his passion and visionary leadership. He was appointed Justice of the Peace in 1995.
Dr. Kwok was not only a prominent entrepreneur but also a well respected philanthropist. He founded the Walter Kwok Foundation and the Kwok Scholars Association to support various charitable activities. Being especially devoted to educational causes, he set up the Kwok Scholarship Programme to help students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to public service study at top tier universities such as the University of Oxford and Yale University. He also made donations to charities such as the Foodlink Foundation and Suicide Prevention Services, thereby giving a hand to the underprivileged. A staunch supporter of HKBU, Dr. Kwok made generous donations in support of the University’s institutional advancement and the construction of the David C. Lam Building.
The Foundation conveys its deepest condolences to the Kwok family at this time of bereavement. Dr. Kwok will always be remembered for his distinguished contributions to the educational and social development of Hong Kong and Mainland China, as well as his unswerving support for the development of the University.
