Unfettered Spirit, Utter Liberation: Selected Artworks by Professor Jao Tsung-i

To pay tribute to the late revered sinologist Professor Jao Tsung-i, GBM, the Hong Kong Baptist University Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology (BUJAS) and Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole of The University of Hong Kong jointly present an exhibition entitled “Unfettered Spirit, Utter Liberation: Selected Artworks by Professor Jao Tsung-i” at BUJAS. The exhibition features Professor Jao’s paintings and calligraphy as well as lectures, master class and Taster Day related to both his scholarship and culture, providing visitors with a glimpse into the notable contribution of Professor Jao to traditional Chinese culture. Professor Jao was a supportive donor of HKBU and was Honorary Permanent Director of the BUJAS.

The Opening Ceremony of the exhibition was held on 7 September 2018. The event was officiated by Ms. Veronica Yiu and Ms. Angeline Yiu, daughters of Professor Jao; Dr. Tang Wai Hung, Deputy Director (Art) of Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole; Professor Ku Cheng Mei, Retired Professor of National University of Singaore; Professor Mette Hjort, Dean of Arts of HKBU; and Professor Chen Zhi, Director of the BUJAS.

Following the ceremony were an exhibition tour and an opening lecture entitled “The Artistic Journey of Professor Jao Tsung-I” introduced and delivered by Dr. Tang Wai Hung. Guests and HKBU representatives attending the event included Mr. So Chung Ping, MH, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Tsim Sha Tsui District KaiFong Welfare Association, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation; Mrs. Fanny Hau, Chairman of The HeArt Touch Charity Foundation, Honorary Director of the HKBU Foundation; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.
