Eight Foundation members and four donors receive honours from HKSAR Government

Eight HKBU Foundation members and four donors of the University were included in this year’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Honours List in recognition of their significant contributions to Hong Kong and their dedicated public and community service.

Grand Bauhinia Medal (GBM)

Dr. the Hon. Robin Chan Yau Hing, GBM, GBS, JP, Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the GBM in recognition of his outstanding and meritorious contributions to the community. Dr. Chan is a successful entrepreneur with great achievements in the insurance industry as well as a philanthropist. Under his steer, his conglomerate has been dedicated to various charitable causes and invested in venture philanthropic organisations to provide financial and other support to social-purpose organisations or social enterprises in Hong Kong. He wholeheartedly promotes the cohesiveness of overseas Chinese and Chinese culture and enhancing the cohesiveness of clansmen. Dr. Chan is currently Chairman of Asia Financial Holdings Limited.

The Hon. Cheung Hok Ming, GBM, GBS, JP, Vice-Chairman of the Heung Yee Kuk N.T., donor of the University, was awarded the GBM in recognition of his distinguished and long public and community service, particularly his dedication and significant contributions to the development of district administration. During the various stages of his public service, particularly as a member of the Executive Council and the Legislative Council, Mr. Cheung rendered staunch support and invaluable advice to the Government and made significant contributions to policy decision-making, particularly in respect of the development of the New Territories and the rural development.

Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS)

Dr. Henry Fong Yun Wah, GBS, MBE, JP, Honorary Trustee of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the GBS in recognition of his long and distinguished community service, particularly his dedication and significant contributions to hundreds of community projects covering education, medical services, elderly care and child care services as well as community building in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. As a successful and respectable entrepreneur with remarkable achievements in the business sector, Dr. Fong has given generous support to philanthropic causes. Dr. Fong is currently Chairman of the Fong Shu Fook Tong Foundation and the Fong's Family Foundation.

Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS)

Dr. Ian Chan Yau Nam, SBS, MH, Permanent Honorary President of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce, Honorary Vice-President of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the SBS for his outstanding public and community service. Through his distinguished leadership, he has strengthened the ties among the Chiu Chow community in Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas to better serve the community. Dr. Chan has brought new impetus to the development of the Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organizations as a force to unite the Chiu Chow clan and promote the Chiu Chow traditional culture through services to the community.

Ms. May Chan Suk Mei, SBS, JP, Senior Member of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the SBS for her notable contributions to the continued promotion of the development of the news industry, training of young journalists and active participation in community service. Ms. Chan is Special Adviser to Chairman of Hong Kong Commercial Broadcasting Co. Ltd.

Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS)

Dr. Lee Yuk Lun, BBS, JP, Member of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the BBS for his remarkable contributions to charity and community service in Hong Kong, particularly his wholehearted devotion as Chairman of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. Dr. Lee is currently Chairman of Pico Zeman Asset Management Limited.

Mr. Stanley Yim Yuk Lun, BBS, JP, Director of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the BBS for his active participation in community service, particularly his continued support to fight crime activities in Tsuen Wan, and his contributions to promoting the development of the electronic industry in Hong Kong over the years. He is currently Chairman and Managing Director of S.A.S. Dragon Holdings Limited.

Dr. Lee Chien, BBS, Governor of the Lee Hysan Foundation, donor of the University, was awarded the BBS for his distinguished service and generous support for higher education and youth development in Hong Kong. He is currently Non-Executive Director of Hysan Development Company Limited.

Medal of Honour (MH)

Mrs. Virginia Yim Tsui Yuk Shan, MH, Director of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the MH for her dedicated community service, particularly her contributions to the work of Yan Chai Hospital. She is currently Director of S.A.S. Electric Co. Ltd.

Dr. Christina Lee Oi Ping, MH, Member of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the MH for her outstanding and dedicated community service in Tuen Mun District, as well as her contributions to the work of Yan Oi Tong. She is currently Sales Director of Everbright Sun Hung Kai Company Limited.

Mr. Kenny Chow Kun Wah, MH, donor of the University, was awarded the MH for his outstanding and dedicated service in the sports sector, particularly his contributions to the promotion of sportsmanship among students in tertiary institutions. He is currently Advisor of The University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China Limited.

Mr. Philip Leung Kwong Hon, MH, donor of the University, was awarded the MH for his dedicated public and community service, particularly his contributions to the promotion of consumer interests. Mr. Leung is currently Senior College Tutor of Wu Yee Sun College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service

In addition, Mr. Eric Tong, President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants; Professor Lyu Aiping, Dean of Chinese Medicine; and Dr. Lobo Louie, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education respectively of Hong Kong Baptist University, were awarded the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service.
