As HKBU School of Communication entered into its 50th year in 2018, the Academy of Film under the School held its reunion dinner on 23 January 2018. The reunion dinner gathered more than 250 guests, including faculty members, students, alumni as well as friends from the film industry.

A number of university supporters attended the dinner. They included the Hon. Mr. Ma Fung Kwok, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council ; Professor Mr. Liu Sing Cheong, JP, Chairman of the Fei Gallery; and Mr. Steve Chan Chi Fat, Director of the film “Weeds on Fire”. Mr. Cheng Yan Kee, BBS, JP, Chairman of the HKBU Council and the Court; Professor Roland T. Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, also attended the dinner.
