In Memoriam: Mrs. Mona Shaw

The HKBU Foundation records with deepest sorrow the passing of Mrs. Mona Shaw, donor of the University, on 22 November 2017. She was 83 years old.
Mrs. Mona Shaw was the Chairperson of The Sir Run Run Shaw Charitable Trust, The Shaw Foundation Hong Kong and The Shaw Prize Foundation. Both Mrs. Shaw and her husband, The Honourable Sir Run Run Shaw, GBM, CBE, Honorary Trustee of the HKBU Foundation, were great philanthropists and they were dedicated to the development of education, scientific and technological research, medical and welfare services, as well as culture and the arts.
Mrs. Shaw and Sir Run Run Shaw were longstanding supporters of HKBU. They made their first donation to the University as early as 1972. In the past four decades, they had made generous donation in support of various endeavours of the University, including specialised teaching in film and television education, the construction of the David C. Lam Building and the University’s institutional advancement. They also established the Sir Run Run Shaw Endowment Fund in support of a variety of research and academic activities. In recognition of their unswerving support, the University named a new building on the Ho Sin Hang Campus the Sir Run Run Shaw Building in 1989, the new campus on Renfrew Road the Shaw Campus and an administration building on the Shaw Campus the Shaw Tower in 1995.
The Foundation conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Shaw family at this time of bereavement. Mrs. Shaw will always be remembered for her zealous support and significant contributions to the University’s development.
