Professor Alex Wai inspires Victoria Shanghai Academy’s Class of 2025 at graduation ceremony
At the invitation of Victoria Shanghai Academy (VSA), Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), graced the VSA Graduation Ceremony 2024-2025 as Guest of Honour on 26 May 2025. Professor Wai presented graduation certificates to the graduating cohort and extended his warmest congratulations.
In his address, Professor Wai commended VSA for its student-centred approach, which nurtures globally-minded and academically curious students, empowering them to thrive in their own unique ways. He highlighted the shared vision between VSA and HKBU, noting that both institutions are committed to innovation, whole-person development, and creating a positive impact on the world.
Addressing global challenges such as the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence and climate change, Professor Wai underscored that the ability to remain adaptable and resilient in a dynamic landscape will set one apart. He cited HKBU’s transdisciplinary education model as an example of how connecting ideas across fields equips students to tackle real-world issues and contribute to the well-being of mankind. He encouraged graduates to stay curious about technology and emerging trends, while never forgetting the importance of human connection and compassion. By leveraging their talents, they can give back to society in meaningful ways.
Marking its 20th anniversary this year, VSA maintains a strong and enduring relationship with HKBU. The academy holds senior membership in the HKBU Foundation. Its School Supervisor, Dr. Peggy Lam, GBS, SBS, OBE, JP, is Honorary Director of the HKBU Foundation, while Professor Ng Ching Fai, GBS, President Emeritus of the University, also sits on the VSA’s Board.
