HKBU’s SourceWater Scholarship bolstered by Mainland alumni support

A group of Mainland alumni, grateful for their educational journeys in Hong Kong, has recently enriched the “SourceWater Scholarship Programme” (the Programme) with additional donations. This initiative supports undergraduate students from both Hong Kong and the Mainland at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) in pursuing academic excellence, fostering cross-border exchanges, and contributing positively to society.
Established in 2017 by the Hong Kong Association of Mainland Graduates, the Programme has been independently funded since 2023 by six individual donors, including five HKBU alumni and a long-time supporter of the University. Scholarship candidates must demonstrate excellent academic performance, a strong sense of belonging to HKBU and Hong Kong, a commitment to social inclusion, and active participation in community service on the Mainland or in Hong Kong, promoting cross-border cultural integration. Priority is given to those facing financial difficulties. Each year, two to three eligible students are awarded scholarships of HK$10,000 each. To date, the Programme has received cumulative donations totalling HK$220,000.
The donating alumni, who graduated between 2002 and 2005 as part of HKBU’s earliest cohort of Mainland undergraduates, deeply appreciate the University’s care and support for students from diverse backgrounds. Through the Programme, they seek to give back to their alma mater and inspire more outstanding undergraduates to engage in voluntary service, ultimately serving as cultural bridges between the Mainland and Hong Kong.
