Reception in honour of Dr. Clement Chen

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held a reception at the Lau Chor Tak Multi-Purpose Hall on 28 March 2025, to express its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Clement Chen, GBS, JP, for his exemplary service as Chairman of the Council and the Court from 2019 to 2024. 

In his opening remarks, Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, praised Dr. Chen for his vision, integrity and commitment. He highlighted major achievements under Dr. Chen’s leadership, including the construction of the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity and the award to HKBU of the service deed for the Chinese Medicine Hospital. Dr. Wong also acknowledged Dr. Chen’s tireless efforts in fostering donor relationships, which have been crucial in securing support for the University’s strategic development and its innovative initiatives.

Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, lauded Dr. Chen as a visionary leader whose unwavering commitment to excellence has driven the University’s rapid developments and rising global standing. He emphasised that Dr. Chen’s tremendous contributions to education, research, and campus development, as well as garnering societal support, have left a profound impact on the University. 

Reflecting on his six-year tenure, Dr. Chen expressed his immense pride and gratitude for the journey. Despite facing unprecedented challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the University community united to support each other, enabling HKBU to navigate hurdles and achieve a variety of new milestones. Dr. Chen felt deeply privileged to have served the University and witnessed first-hand its remarkable transformation. He extended his best wishes for HKBU’s continued success in the future.  

The reception was well attended by distinguished guests, including Ir Professor Paul Poon, MH, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court; Ms. Rosanna Choi, MH, former Treasurer of the Council and the Court; members of the Council, Court, and HKBU Foundation; and friends of the University. They included Mr. Abraham Chan; Mr. David Fong, BBS, JP; Professor Harrison Ho; Mr. Lau Pak Shing; Professor David Lee, BBS, MH, CStJ, JP; Professor William Leung, GBS, JP; Mr. Victor Pang, MH; Mrs. Mary Suen, MH; Dr. Chloe Suen; Dr. Tony Tai and Dr. Lo Tai Chin, MH; Dr. Jacinto Tong; Ms. Jacquelline Tong; Mr. Ivan Wong, JP; and Ms. Esther Wong.
