The “Tencent for Good Scholarship”, funded by the Tencent Charity Foundation (the Tencent Foundation), is now accepting applications. Undergraduate students in their second year or above who are devoted to charitable endeavours are welcome to apply by 27 May 2025.

The Scholarships & Financial Aid Unit and Career Centre of the Office of Student Affairs at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), in collaboration with the Tencent Charity Foundation, jointly hosted the Tencent for Good Scholarship Information Session and Recruitment Talk on 27 March 2025. The event offered a detailed introduction to the Scholarship’s application procedures and eligibility criteria, along with insights into Tencent’s recruitment and information on its talent programme for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan (港澳台英才計劃), assisting students in planning their future careers.

During the event, Tencent also introduced its newly launched educational initiative, Tencent WeTech Academy (“WeTech”).  Leveraging Tencent’s robust technical capabilities and resources, WeTech is dedicated to promoting the holistic development of technology and innovation education. By integrating a tiered training system with hands-on learning, research and competitive experiences, WeTech aims to improve the scientific and technological literacy of the next generation, promote the spirit of “Tech for Good” among youth, and contribute to cultivating local talent to transform Hong Kong into an international hub for innovation and technology.

Guest speakers at the event included Mr. James Li Tsz Shu, Vice President of Public Affairs and Financial Technology at Tencent and Chief Executive of the Tencent Foundation; Ms. Joanne Lin, Human Resource Director of TiMi Studio Group of Tencent; Ms. Rachel Tay, Programme Director of the Tencent Foundation; and Mr. Alan Tsoi, Deputy Director of Greater Bay Area Public Affairs of Tencent. HKBU representatives, including Professor Andrew Kwok, Associate Vice-President (Curriculum and Pedagogies); Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Dr. Rosa Tang, Deputy Director of Student Affairs; and Ms. Denise Chu, Head of the Career Centre, were present to lend their support.

The Tencent Foundation, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, has long been committed to promoting altruism and supporting people in need. It established the Tencent for Good Scholarship last year, aimed at inspiring more young people to engage in philanthropic activities and fostering a culture of goodwill. For seven consecutive years starting from the academic year 2024-2025, the Scholarship will annually award HK$20,000 to up to 15 undergraduate students who actively participate in social service or voluntary work.

To be eligible for the Scholarship, students must complete at least 30 hours of relevant service in the past year and submit a video on the theme “Making a Better World Because of You”, showcasing their most impactful and innovative charitable work.
