Founded by the Faculty of Arts at HKBU, the Chinese Writers’ Workshop (CWW) hosted its “2023 Distinguished Chinese Writers Series” on 11 and 13 October 2023. Renowned Chinese writer Professor Wang Anyi was invited to deliver a public lecture entitled “The Journey of Fiction Writing” to share her experience and insights on writing novels and discuss how to establish the context of novels with the participants in her masterclass entitled “Build Up a Novel”.

In his welcome remarks, Professor Alexander Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, hoped that this event would inspire more young literary talents and encourage them to write their own stories in Chinese, thereby inheriting the treasures of Chinese culture. The events were well attended by a number of participants and HKBU representatives including Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and Acting Dean of Arts, and Professor Lo Kwai Cheung, Director of CWW and Head of the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing.

Launched in 2020 and sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, CWW is dedicated to promoting contemporary Chinese literature and culture to society, the nation, and the world. It also aims to showcase the diversity and richness of Chinese literary culture. In autumn every year, CWW invites a distinguished Chinese writer from different places around the world to visit HKBU.

Facilitated by Dr. Tong Yui, Associate Professor of Department of Humanities and Creative Writing, Prof. Wang had a meaningful dialogue with the participants
