The Scholarship and Financial Aid Donor Appreciation Reception 2022-23 was held by the Office of Student Affairs on 19 May 2023 to express the University’s gratitude to donors for their generosity and untiring support over the years, and to provide an opportunity for the beneficiaries to thank the donors in person. Around 250 donors, staff and students joined this special occasion.

In his welcoming address, Professor Alexander Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, said that over 2,800 scholarships and over 150 bursaries had been offered to students in the 2022-23 academic year, amounting to about HK$96 million in total. He thanked the donors for alleviating students’ financial burdens and encouraging them to keep up their pursuit of academic excellence and personal development, despite the challenges encountered amid the pandemic in the past few years.

Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and Acting Dean of Arts, reported on the progress and impact of two prominent funding schemes of the University. He said that the First-Generation University Student Fund has received HK$10 million in donations, and it has benefitted over 1,700 students since its establishment in 2017. He also shared that Project SEED (Student Engagement, Enrichment and Development) has received nearly HK$12.5 million in donations over the past three years. The HKBU SEED Fund, made available under Project SEED in 2020, has provided timely assistance to over 240 needy students and supported various initiatives, such as service-learning and social innovation projects, student exchange programmes as well as the Subsidised Internship Scheme.
