The University held a special Thanksgiving Service to mark its 66th Founders’ Day on 8 June 2022, with Professor Raymond R. Wong, SBS, the recipient of HKBU honorary degree of Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa, and Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, being invited to share a thanksgiving message. Organised by the Chaplain’s Office, the event was held online.

In his sharing, Professor Wong expressed his heartfelt gratitude to God for the blessings that had showered on him. Particularly, he was so blessed to have the opportunity to teach at HKBU and meet his wife.

Professor Wong, better known as the Godfather of Hong Kong journalism, and as the former Head of the Department of Communication of HKBU, also shared his experience in journalism at the service. In view of the social influence of mass media, Professor Wong called on journalists to hold fast to the principles of professional ethics and responsibility. “Speed is important, but accuracy should come first,” he said. He also reminded journalists that they should always try to stay impartial when reporting news. He wrapped up the message by offering words of encouragement to the audience, “Stay positive, live in the moment and never give up in face of difficulties, and be a lifelong learner.”
