Providence Foundation Elderly Care Programme

08 July 2021

Residential education is an integral part in the holistic education of HKBU. Through participating in the various out-of-classroom activities organised by the University’s Undergraduate Halls, students can enhance their non-academic qualities, which complement their academic excellence and social agility.

Sponsored by Providence Foundation Limited, the Undergraduate Halls organised the Elderly Care Programme from 2017 to 2021, with 150 students and 50 elderly joining the Programme. Students paid regular visits and joined various activities with the elderly, including sightseeing trips in Hong Kong and Macau, making Portuguese egg tarts, and enjoying a Pun Choi dinner and Chinese Opera. During the pandemic, students continued to convey their love and care on phone. A close bond was built up between the students and the elderly. The Providence Foundation Elderly Care Programme came to an end in May 2021 and a very affectionate closing ceremony was held. A painting handmade by the elderly for the students marked a warm finale to the programme.
