HKBU’s Academy of Film organised the premiere gala for the film “My Prince Edward” on 11 June 2020. The event also featured a post-screening sharing session with Miss Norris Wang Yee Lam and Mr. Chan Hing Kai, Director and Producer of the film respectively, together with the cast of the film. Miss Wong is an alumna of the Academy. 

The event was well attended by around 400 guests including film practitioners, Foundation members, friends of the University, as well as staff and students. They included Mrs. Merlin Au; Dr. Chiu Chun Bong, MBE, JP; Ms. Noletta Chiu; Dr. Elizabeth Law, MH; Mr. Justin Lee; Mr. Alex Leung; Mr. Paul Poon; Mr. So Wing Kin; Mrs. Susan So, BBS; Mrs. Mary Suen; Mr. Stephen Yau, SBS, MH, JP; Mrs. Elizabeth Wong; Mr. Wong Nga Chung; Mr. Ivan Wong; Mr. Lawrence Wong and Mr. Sunny Wong. Dr. Clement Chen, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court; Professor Roland T. Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Huang Yu, Associate Vice-President (Mainland) and Dean of Communication; Mr. Yeung Chee Kong, Associate Vice-President (Engagement); Professor Eva Man, Director of the Academy of Film; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, also attended the event.

“My Prince Edward”, a movie written and directed by Miss Norris Wang, won several prestigious awards including the Best New Director award at the 39th Hong Kong Film Awards and the NETPAC Award, co-presented by the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and the Network for the Promotion of Asia Pacific Cinema. In addition, the film was given the Best Screenplay and the Recommended Film awards by the 26th Hong Kong Film Critics Society. Miss Wang was also named the Best New Director by the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild. “My Prince Edward” was one of the winning entries in the Higher Education Institution Group at the 4th First Feature Film Initiative, and it received funding from the Government’s Film Development Fund to support its production.
