22 A HKBU team led by Professor Cai Zongwei, the Kwok Yat Wai Endowed Professor in Environmental and Biological Analysis, and Dr. Yang Zhu, Assistant Professor of the Department of Biology, discovered that phosphocholine, an important component in the body’s metabolism, could counteract the adverse effects of PM2.5 toxicity on lung cells. This highlights the potential of phosphocholine in treating diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and lung cancer. 浸大郭一葦環境與生物分析教授蔡宗葦教授及生物系助理教 授楊鑄博士的研究團隊發現,人體新陳代謝的重要成分「磷 酸膽鹼」可對抗微細懸浮粒子(PM2.5)毒性對肺細胞的負面 影響。這發現顯示磷酸膽鹼或可用於治療哮喘、慢性阻塞性 肺病和肺癌等肺部疾病。 Led by Dr. Pan Jiayan, Associate Professor of HKBU’s Department of Social Work, a research team developed an internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy programme named “REST Online”. This was found to be effective in reducing university students’ psychological distress, depression and anxiety, as well as negative thoughts and emotions. The team’s study also showed that the programme can produce a lasting change in people’s mental well-being. 由浸大社會工作系副教授潘佳雁博士領導的研究團隊開發了 名為「REST Online」的網上認知行為治療計劃,證實能有 效減輕大學生的心理壓力、抑鬱和焦慮症狀,以及負面思想 和情緒;研究結果更顯示該計劃能為大眾的心理健康帶來 持久的改善。 Innovative Research 創新研究 A novel Chinese herbal formulation for ulcerative colitis remission maintenance developed by HKBU’s Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development was authorised by the National Medical Products Administration for a clinical trial in the Mainland. Ulcerative colitis is a form of inflammatory bowel disease which is increasingly prevalent. In a clinical study conducted by the Centre in Hong Kong, patients using the formulation demonstrated its good tolerability with no adverse effects. 浸大轄下「中藥創新研發中心」獲國家藥品監督管理局批 准,就其用於潰瘍性結腸炎緩解期維持治療的中藥複方製劑 「參苓潰康顆粒」在內地臨床試驗。潰瘍性結腸炎愈趨普遍, 中心早前於香港進行臨床研究,病人服藥後表現良好的耐 受性,且沒有不良反應。 To address the pressing issues associated with the cost of blockchain data maintenance and the security of off-chain data, Professor Xu Jianliang, Head and Chair Professor of HKBU’s Department of Computer Science, and his team proposed a system titled “Gas-efficient Blockchain Technology for Trustworthy Data Storage and Retrieval”, which provides a cost-effective way to manage blockchain data.
