HKBU Foundation Annual Report 2018-19

13 It is indeed my honour to take part in this meaningful service-learning project. It was a fruitful collaboration with Dongguan Yan Garden, which provided us with a valuable opportunity to create art pieces that enhance the community’s environment. I was also glad to have my work displayed in the exhibitions held in Hong Kong and Dongguan. All these precious experiences help me to develop my future career. With populations around the world ageing, it is predicted that the number of patients suffering from neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s will rise dramatically, posing an increasingly serious threat to public health. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Mr. Kam Yuen, Founder of Golden Meditech Holdings Limited, for his generous support for the establishment of the Golden Meditech Centre for NeuroRegeneration Sciences. The Centre will conduct in-depth research related to autologous neural stem cell therapy and other cell therapies that can potentially treat neurodegenerative and other diseases that are presently incurable. Professor Ken K.L.
