9 Message from the President 校長獻辭 Celebrating its 50th birthday, the School of Communication held a number of spectacular events, ranging from the 1st Global University Film Awards (GUFA) and the 8th Pulitzer Winners Workshop, to meaningful community projects and social media initiatives engaging with supporters in the community. Vying for the GUFA honours, there were 1,841 submissions from 99 countries and regions, making the event one of the most international in scope ever to be held in Hong Kong. Special thanks go to the sponsors whose generous contributions made the event such a resounding success. The Department of Chinese Language also commemorated its 55th anniversary in November 2017 by holding a special celebration at which 200 alumni and students as well as current and retired academic staff were reunited to share their fond memories. The Department of History turned 40 in February 2018, and celebrated this significant milestone with a series of events that featured outstanding alumni and renowned international scholars. HKBU would not have achieved so much without the unwavering support from the community and you, the dedicated members of the HKBU Foundation and staunch supporters of the University. I am confident that the University can count on your continued engagement in advancing our strategic development. As the University forges ahead with the ISP and our Talent100 initiative – combined with the ambitious infrastructure projects – we look forward with keen anticipation to the year ahead as our efforts begin to bear fruit. Chin President Chair Professor of Computer Science 今年慶祝成立 50 周年的傳理學院亦舉行了一 連串精彩的慶祝活動，由第一屆全球大學電 影獎（ GUFA ）、第八屆普立茲新聞獎得主工 作坊，到饒富意義的社區計劃及社交媒體活 動，均吸引各界人士踴躍參與。 GUFA 吸引到 1,841 份來自 99 個國家及地區的大學生參賽作 品，是香港最國際化的盛事之一。在此特別 鳴謝第一屆全球大學電影獎贊助人的支持， 令是項活動得以圓滿舉行。 中國語言文學系於 2017 年 11 月為創系 55 周年 舉行了慶祝活動， 200 多名校友、學生、現職 及榮休教職員匯聚一堂，分享那些年的美好 回憶。 歷史系於 2018 年 2 月舉行 40 周年慶典啟動儀 式，為連串慶祝活動揭開序幕，包括歷史系 傑出校友的分享，以及國際知名學者的講座。 全賴社會大眾、香港浸會大學基金各會員、大 學友好的熱心襄助及鼎力支持，大學才能有今 日輝煌的成就，大學將繼續倚仗您們的支持和 參與向前邁進。我們熱切期待大學的策略發展 計劃、「人才 100 」計劃及各基建項目於來年持 續順利推行，並為大學帶來豐碩成果。 錢大康 校長 計算機科學系講座教授
